If you knew you could not fail? This is a question engraved on a metal coin on my desk. Over the past few years I have often picked it up and reflected on what I truly wanted to do in the world, and I have come to the realization that the excitement of building a company with my wife, Ann Marie, is my ultimate goal.
I am thankful that Ann Marie has been successful with AMM Communications over the past year – the plan was that I would eventually join the company – however the timing was right this summer for me to accelerate this process. Are you happy in your job or are you just hanging on to ride out this recession? Recent statistics indicate that in ten years, approximately 40% of positions will be outsources. The entrepreneurial spirit that I had when I graduated from college was pushed into the background as I advanced my career with large corporations. But in the back of my mind, I always wanted to start and grow my own company, and there is no better time than the present.
With great risk come great rewards. My parents always told me that I wouldn’t get rich working for someone else (when I mean rich, I don’t necessarily mean monetary but personal fulfillment).
So what would you attempt to do if you knew that you couldn’t fail? Would you pursue your dreams of working in a completely new industry? Would you take the leap into the exciting, but sometimes stressful world of entrepreneurship?
